Creating content has been a bit of a struggle lately. I’ve spent a decent chuck of time reassessing the type and when and where I post my content, but that isn’t really an excuse to not continue to post and create content. But it’s the excuse I’ve been using…
I thought about sharing my content creating plan in video form — still might do that — but as I am wanting to grown my written content (and become more consistent in posting written content) I figured this would be a decent place to start.
I am going to attempt to write a short story every month from now until the end of the year, with the exception of November because that’s NaNoWriMo(Nation Novel Writing Month). So that’s three short stories to write between now and the end of 2017. And these three short stories will have zero edits prior to posting. This will be the start of what I’ll call my “First Draft” Series. This is an idea that I’ve had for a while, but am now deciding to make it more than just an idea.
For YouTube: I will continue to make the Media Consumption videos (my mass, monthly review videos). The next one posted will have July, August, and September media. I also intend to make a monthly novel update video — with the exception of November because November get’s it’s own weekly novel videos due to NaNoWriMo. But I want to document the process of my novel, and I hope that sharing my process will help others. If nothing else, I have a fun keepsake for me as I continue to pursue this dream of becoming a published novelist.
I will continue to vlog my travels and do specialized reviews when I have more to say than what I can fit in the MC vlogs. But I am creating my video content schedule based on type of content as opposed to how many videos in a month (which is how I had been creating my schedule). To an extent, I am deciding how many videos I’ll post regularly, but I’m not limiting myself.
By not choosing a goal of a video or a blog every week, I am freeing myself to post when I have ideas as well as posting when I don’t. What I have noticed, in the patterns of my posting past, is that some months I have more ideas than others. Which is normal and completely fine. But I don’t want to hold on to content that could become stale just to give the appearance that I have ideas every week. I want to, and I strive to be honest and professionally transparent with my content. And I think this plan that I have been mulling over will help me as a content creator, and hopefully encourage my audience to find the path that works best for them if they desire to create content.
